“Great Adventures” – A Mini-fiction

He crashed down on the bed, his rib-cage connecting with the firm mattress, another tiring day complete.

He had overcome much adversity today, had great adventures (these included slaying at least one dragon and the vanquishing of no less than three vampires) and he had met the love of his life.

She was nine years old, had just moved in two houses down the street from his own and in two weeks time, she would agree to be his girlfriend.

By the time summer rolled around, they would be engaged and by autumn, she would have broken his heart.

But right now, he didn’t know any of that. He was just looking forward to tomorrow.

    This is lovely. I had a massive smile on my face reading that, as I realised the boys age and how you were describing his feelings. You capture the sense of childhood in a handful of sentences.
