Poem: I Have Missed My Ship

June 9, 2012
tags: ,

I have always been dependably late,
from dawn ’til dusk, dependably so.

Come nightfall I wonder,
will the sun set early on things undone?
Or will evening drag on
and sleep never come?

I arrived late to the party
and cannot leave, try as I might.
And now I find, I have missed my ship
or passed it in the night.

The maiden voyage has passed,
she will make no return.
Seaward I stare, at the wake that lasts,
at where the oceans still churn.

But somehow I know, even had I been in time,
rejection would be all, to meet any ticket of mine.

“But somehow I know, even had I been in time,
rejection would be all, to meet any ticket of mine.”

    Well said! Sad, but…
    well said.
