Where Cheap Novels Come From (Poem)

Your philosophy disagrees with mine,
which in and of itself is fine.

But the way in which you document your descent
under the guise of adventure
reads like fantasy and frankly, a mental decline.

Like a cheap paperback novel purchased in the airport
and abandoned in the hotel room (if not on the plane),
to be found by the maid, who gives it to her sister.

Life is not a cheap novel.
Life is small, petty facts,
like knowing the author is only in it for the money
and writes for a market,
and that that’s where cheap novels come from.

Life is not woven of poetry, but poetry woven of life.
