Poem: Part of You

June 20, 2012

We’ll reverse the strategy
of ordinary songs and rhymes.

You’ll come close, take hold of me.
I no longer want to be mine all mine.

I want to be yours
(make me yours),
I want to be a part of you.

I want to be yours
(make me yours).
I want to be beautiful too.

Let’s not play under the sheets,
let’s take your skin and play underneath.

Let’s not play in this bed,
let us play, in you instead.

You’ll forgive vulgarity, I know.
In every analogy, I show
what I’m made of is flesh and bone
and freshest blood,
wishing to escape my skin
and be in yours, if it could.

It doesn’t want to be mine all mine,
it wants to be a part of you.
Like me, inside of you it wants to climb,
it wants to be part of something beautiful too.
